Gander is a social media platform that was built by Canadians. The creators prioritize privacy, and allow users to control their feeds rather than being at the mercy of algorithms that hijack your dopamine.
One of the Gander users started a daily microfiction challenge called #honkfic. Everyday they provide a one word prompt, and other users have a total of 300 characters (not words) to tell a story using said prompt in a post. Both “#honkfic” and the hashtagged prompt word count toward the character count.

“Give me a #boost.” The journalist whispered. Her foot met interlocked fingers and she stepped up, hands landing on a concrete windowsill. Through the dirtied glass she saw it: proof of the robot army being raised to deliver humanity’s final blow.
